Greetings! The first issue of Dementia Friendly Ventura County News is attached. It includes an overview of activities held in June to officially launch the program and the status of current activities. Launch activities will continue throughout the year ahead in different area of the county.   Click here: Dementia Friendly Ventura County News

I am also pleased to share the video link about the Virtual Dementia Tour held at the County Government Center on June 21The four-minute video was created by VCAAA’s public information officer, Jannette Jauregui. Taking the tour simulates how a person with a cognitive impairment experiences the world. It enables the ‘tourist’ to have a hands-on experience of what it is like to have a cognitive impairment such as Alzheimer’s disease or another form of dementia. The video is viewable online at

We are truly grateful to Homewatch CareGivers of Thousand Oaks (Kris and Randy Martin) for providing the virtual dementia tour in their converted motor home. Kris, Randy, and staff are very experienced in providing the tours. Their expertise, professionalism, and compassion create an atmosphere of safety and caring for the virtual dementia tourists. Two virtual dementia tours were held in June, and eight more tours are scheduled in the months ahead. The tours have been made possible by a generous grant from Long Term Care Services of Ventura County (Ombudsman).

More good news – VCAAA has a new website at and Dementia Friendly Ventura County has a page in VCAAA’s new website. There are two ways to reach the DFVC page:

· Click this link: -OR-· Go to and click on the Dementia Friendly Ventura County icon at the top right corner of the home page.

Please note the webpage and website are a work in progress. Included on the DFVC webpage is a link to the video, Small Changes Help Make a Dementia Friendly Community – by the Alzheimer’s Society in Great Britain. This three-minute video is an excellent demonstration of the meaning and impact of a dementia friendly community. Kudos to Marleen Canniff, VCAAA Grants Administrator, for her efforts in helping to develop the new website and tweaking the DFVC page.

Dementia Friendly Ventura County is off to an extraordinary start thanks to the Leadership Team, and especially the many individuals and organizations who were involved with the launch in various capacities.
